Our Campaigns and Efforts

Research: Substance abuse is a serious public health issue that has an impact on people, families, and communities all over the world. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) estimates that 275 million individuals, or 5.5% of the world's population between the ages of 15 and 64, used drugs in 2020. In North America, where over 13% of the population reported taking drugs in the previous year, drug usage is most common. Substance misuse may have detrimental effects on one's health, society, and economy. Chronic health issues including heart disease, lung illness, and mental health disorders can develop as a result of drug use disorders, according to the National Institute on Drug Addiction (NIDA). Drug usage also plays a role in a number of societal issues, such as homelessness, unemployment, and crime. Around $740 billion is thought to be the yearly economic cost of drug misuse in the US alone. Drug misuse is influenced by a number of variables, such as heredity, environment, and mental health. According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), those who have a history of substance misuse in their families are more likely to acquire drug use disorders. Trauma, social isolation, and negative childhood experiences can all raise one's likelihood of abusing drugs. Although there is effective therapy for substance misuse, access to it might be difficult. Ablo1 in 10 people with drug use disorders, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), obtain treatment. Behavioral therapy, medication-assisted treatment, and support groups like Narcotics Anonymous are all examples of evidence-based treatments for drug dependence. A diverse strategy that incorporates education, public health measures, and laws to restrict access to drugs is necessary to prevent drug misuse. The World Health Organization (WHO) suggests evidence-based preventative tactics such community-based initiatives, school-based programs, and laws to limit access to drugs. The core causes of drug misuse, such as social and economic inequalities, trauma, and mental health illnesses, must also be addressed in prevention programs.

Selection of Campaign Issue: We chose the issue of Drug abuse as it is a significant public health issue that is frequently linked to criminal behavior and can result in health issues, social problems, and financial constraints. Worldwide, it has an impact on people, families, and communities, placing a greater burden on the legal and healthcare systems. It is important to spread awareness of and support prevention and treatment methods for this severe issue. Drug abuse campaigns may inform the public on the dangers and effects of substance usage, and advance methods for prevention and treatment that are supported by the best available scientific evidence. They can also promote legislation to limit access to drugs and enhance funds for research and treatment for addiction. Overall, drug abuse campaigns can have a significant impact on public health by promoting strategies, advocating for policy changes, and increasing awareness. When looking at our campaign, individuals are made aware of the costly effects of drug abuse and steer clear of drug use/misuse.

Goals and Objectives of Campaign: Our anti-drug abuse campaign's main objective is to increase public awareness of the dangers and repercussions of substance usage and to support successful prevention and treatment methods. One of the goals of our campaign is to inform people about the risks of drug usage, reduce discrimination and prejudice related to substance use disorders, support evidence-based services and policies, and encourage those who are addicted to get help. Our campaign also strives to connect people with appropriate treatment choices, provide services for those in need of help, and educate parents, educators, and healthcare professionals about the danger signs of substance use. We'll use a variety of tactics to accomplish our campaign objectives, including social media and internet outreach, and collaborations with nearby institutions and groups. Our objective is to involve many stakeholders, such as those who have personal experience with drug use problems, family members, medical experts, lawmakers, and community leaders. Our campaign can assist in lessening the detrimental effects of substance use disorders on people, families, and communities by increasing awareness of the dangers and consequences of drug usage and supporting evidence-based prevention and treatment measures. Our overall goal is to enhance access to effective prevention and treatment options, educate people with the knowledge they need to make decisions about drug use, and advocate for social changes that will improve people's health and well-being.

Our Campaign: Our anti-drug abuse campaign aimed to spread knowledge of the dangers and repercussions of substance usage as well as measures for prevention and treatment that are supported by scientific evidence. Social media outreach was a crucial tactic we used. We frequently posted data about drug usage facts and statistics, first-person accounts of people who have substance use problems, and details on specific routes for prevention and treatment on different social media platforms.
